Update 3rd of April

HAPPY EASTER EVERYONE ….the weather is mild and the centre full for Jaya’s poetry workshop on now. Friends have been using the centre for respite, Anne is back at Coorain and we have set course for the next phase.
All who use and value the centre create the environment of healing and exploration that permeates all we do. It feels like Origins is gaining a strong foundation for continued service.

CHANGES TO PROGRAM
Please note that we have trimmed our offerings for the rest of the year. Events, hospitality, groundworks and maintenance have to be in sync with the staff resources we have.
There will be more offered online as the year unfolds and we want to encourage local day use, such as Millie’s children’s theatre workshops, yoga and private teaching as well.

MANAGEMENT
Overall site management at Origins will be undertaken by Melinda. Chim is particularly grateful for this change and will, of course, support her in this roll. Thanks Melinda, Kip and Sondra for their adapting and working together. Origins is a resilient, creative project in community service and education, so it requires such good teamwork and inclusive methods. Many thanks one and all.

COORAIN
Anne is the manager at Coorain, attending to cabin bookings, site maintenance, pottery, teaching etc. She will begin pottery for children and adults on each Tuesday from April 20th until June 29th with a focus on the upcoming Balingup Open House and Art Trail on May 8th and 9th.
First children's pottery session: Tuesday, April 20th 3:30 til 4:30pm. Materials supplied.
Contact Anne 0499 52 88 64 or email origins.centre.coorain@gmail.com

COORAIN OPEN THURSDAYS (FORTNIGHTLY)
These happen every other Thursday, the same weeks as meetings, the next open days are the 15th and 29th of April. Chim may be away then but Anne will take the day.
You may come along anytime and join in as you like. There are always chores if you feel like helping out!
We start at 6:30am with puja chanting followed by a shared breakfast. 9am is the Setting Up of mindfulness for 40 mintutes followed by discussion of practice or some principle of common interest. Anne Marie does distilling, there are books to read, personal time in the shrine room, conversation and a great potluck lunch. This is an evolving day that is gradually coming together. Dharma is an integrating theme.

ENVIRONMENT
It’s bridal creeper control time once more! Big thanks to Kip who is available to work on this. If you ever feel like contributing some time, I’m sure you’ll be able to help.

SHOLTO
Sholto and Vahri are off to a new adventure in Canberra where Vahri has a new position teaching and doing research at a university there. We wish them good fortune and love; we also say ‘be good to see you back in the region one day’!!

KINDY
Anne is back to conduct Kindy again. We all love that families come and we get to greet the wonderful newborns that are brought to Kindy. What joy it is to host the generations of growing young families and to participate in their support and welfare. Kindy rains power on our practice and helps us to anchor in the ever-present birthing and to think of our future lives and aspirations.

VIHARA
Final designs are happening, so we will soon see the building inspector and take the final steps of preparation. The building will echo the Alcove design and host resident dharma practitioners from our own community, lineage and associated groups. The purpose of the Vihara is to ensure a continuous presence of dharma teaching and practice at Origins Centre.
Friends have contributed site works, landscaping and design skills plus $13,000 so far. The goal is $42,000.
As soon as all preparation is finished we will report and seek to raise funds and set a start date. We will advertise the opportunity throughout our networks. This project is of real value to our longterm future so that dharma teachings continue to provide stimulus and guidance to us all.

RESIDENT MOTHER POSSUM AND BABIES
Yes, she is still around and carrying new joeys on her back! There is a move to provide a new possum house near the kids play area, so we can finally close down her squat above the back door of the amenities.

THANKS
Thanks to Karen for the large settee to replace the worn one in the lounge room. I’m sure it will be much used and appreciated in the years ahead.
