Origins Centre Update 9th December 2020 ONLINE Appreciation to our online community. Many old friends as well as new ones have used Origins’ zoom or streaming service. It’s a joy to know you are there and we will continue to develop this in the years to come. Watch out for PATREON one of these days…BTW, is there anyone who would like to do interviews and encourage music and readings up in Perth? Contact Chim via the office. The contributions that are made online are so very valuable. They enable us to support essential maintenance and admin that allows the centre to run in the physical world. THANK YOU!! NOTE: Last online mindfulness session is 8am Friday the 18th of December. Sessions resume Tuesday February 9th at 8.30am.
PEACE PAGODA DAY Such a warm and welcoming, encouraging day it was. We remembered and honoured the dhamma (Buddha’s teaching). We splashed water for health and scattered flowers for happiness all over the Pagoda, then enjoyed a beautiful smorgasbord of food, as does happen at Origins. Many of us were familiar and there were new guests too. Great that members of the Perth Mon community could attend and bring their wonderful Myanmar food. Children, of course, are always wonderful. And they were certainly there! The Peace Pagoda message is deeply inclusive of us all. It was a lovely communal day.
FAMILY RETREAT This friendly and enjoyable time ran for three days before the Pagoda day. We visited Catherine and Serge at Hygge Farm where the children could get close to animals and participate in caring for them. Hygge Farm is a friendly farm specialising in community nature education. Millie, who is very involved in local theatre, did some great children’s theatre exercises and then put on a show with us all involved! Millie will be teaching at Origins in 2021. Thanks to all.
MAINTENANCE Steve has come back to stay at Origins and agreed to be our infrastructure maintenance person until later in January. Thanks Steve! We are currently making a better compost toilet at Lighthouse and laying new floor tiling in the shower areas at OC.
COORAIN Thanks to all our happy potters, young and old! We will finish classes next Monday/Tuesday and reopen pottery classes on March 20/21. Thank you everyone for all the support this year. Stay safe and enjoy the festive season. We are working toward a Coorain program for 2021 as a complement to all that happens at Origins. NOTE: Coorain offers independent cabins for respite and retreat to people who have familiarity with Origins or as overflow accommodation for courses. Contact Anne: firstname.lastname@example.org
ENVIRONMENT We are doing our best to stay on top of weeding, watering, fire safety and paths. Kip has made special efforts deheading phalaris grass and Sholto continues to generously come down from Bunbury each week to help and guide . The hill is so beautiful and alive; it’s joy to see it strengthen and grow in diversity. More people are finding pleasure and fitness by using the tracks made by the kangaroos and ourselves! If you ever want to help out, you can always rake a path.
CURATED WEEKENDS Origins weekend events will be curated under four categories. Please contact the curators if you want to offer a course or if you want to participate. Each weekend of each month is designated: The 1st weekend is healing, curated by Melinda: email@example.com The 2nd is mindfulness, curated by Chime: firstname.lastname@example.org> The 3rd is the arts, curated by Scott: email@example.com The 4th is about nature, curated by Kip: firstname.lastname@example.org This rhythm will continue through the year except during retreats.
WORK GOVERNANCE Except for essential services in maintenance and admin, all our work is freely given by supportive friends, mostly living locally or onsite. It is always touching and encouraging to realise the extent that all life is supported in this way. Workers for wages are often volunteers as well, like in families!
SAFE WA APP We have registered so you can now register attendance with your mobile phone. Otherwise we keep a physical register, all required for Covid awareness and any future test and trace.
PEACE PAGODA VIHARA Since Chrissie launched this project it has been flowing well. With a target of $42,000, we have already reached $11,000. Please contribute towards the cost if you can. The Vihara will provide our centre with longterm teaching and practice of the Buddhadharma. Vihara retreatants will come from our own network of elders who understand our lineage and approach. This has great value for us all, not least in terms of stability and longevity! We will ask retreatants for a minimum of three months at a time. Chime thinks this is one of our most important initiatives for the longlife of our teaching the dharma and the security of Origins Centre. All inquiries to Chime. Please make your donations (please include reference ‘vihara’) to: Origins Centre Soc Inc/Coorain BSB 066 504 ACC 10056415 All inquiries to Chim: email@example.com
