Balingup Small Tree Farm The SMALL TREE FARM is up the valley from the Origins Centre. It is a family farm, run by Andrew Thamo and Chrissy Sharp, plus their daughter Lara, son Tosh and son-in-law Jeremy Bos. The Small Tree Farm runs a bare root deciduous tree nursery and a demonstration tree farm. The farm is small (one hundred acres) but the trees are big. The name comes from Chrissy and Andrew’s work with world famous economist EF Schumacher in the 1970’s. The farm has research plots and a seed orchard of some national significance, growing second generation selected eucalypts bred for saw logs. It also specialises in permaculture trees and the theory and practice of using trees as fire retardants. |
Andrew and Chrissy were founders of the forest movement in WA, and Chrissy was an MP for the Greens. They are also the founders and mainstay of Balingup’s arboretum, Golden Valley Tree Park. www.smalltreefarm.com.au
