We’ve had a healthy fall of rain, steady and consistent, which has been great for the land. The change of seasons is now clearly underway. The cooler weather is coming in, and the birds and other wildlife are responding well. Sonam’s recent Theravada Retreat went well - thank you to all who attended. It’s also a time of transition at the Centre. Things are shifting and settling into their next phase.
Coorain Autumn is beginning to reveal itself across the land, with colours slowly turning and softening the landscape. Coorain will require some maintenance in the coming months. For those who have experience in this tradition and connected to our network of teachers, the cabins of Tusita and Studio will be available for personal retreat. Puja will continue in the Shrine Room at 7:00am on Mondays and Fridays at Coorain, holding a consistent rhythm for those who wish to attend. Many thanks to Cooper who has been a steady hand up at Coorain, offering generous support across many tasks. Adam has also contributed, taking down a large tree. Safe travels to Em, who is journeying to Sikkim to visit the nuns, reconnect with friends, and deepen relationships. She will also be bringing back incense and thangkas. Chime is currently in New Zealand, spending time at Wangapeka and by all accounts having a enjoyable experience.
Kindy Open Day There will be a Kindy open day next Wednesday at 10am. This is an open gathering for parents/caregivers and their children. We enjoy the interest that has been arising and hope to continue to support the community in this way.
Term Break As we align with the school term periods, the centre will pause retreats from Friday 3rd April to Sunday 19th April. This creates a natural window to move in step with the wider community schedule and allow space between retreats.
Thank You Kip Kip first began caretaking at Origins Centre in 2020. He will now be stepping back from caretaking duties and moving further onto the Bibbulmun Track. Natural Perspectives has been steadily developing over the past few years as an expression of the Origins ethos. What began within the Centre is now continuing to evolve outward into the wider landscape. Kip will still be spending time at the Centre most weeks and remain closely connected to the community, though no longer in a formal caretaking role.
Thanks - Mary for the bed covers - Paul for the bedding - Sue for her ongoing care of the Rotunda. - to those who have been coming mid week to help with the work
Upcoming Events at Origins
Strong Open Heart: Helping Ourselves, Helping Others Retreat with Adrian: 24th to 26th April A semi-silent, in-person retreat for mental health, health and human services workers, offering space to rest, reflect and reconnect. Drawing on traditional Buddhist wisdom and contemporary evidence-based practice, the retreat explores meditation, mindful movement, heart-based practices and time in nature to support resilience, embodied presence and sustainable self-care. Together we will share silence, guided practice and group connection to cultivate the steadiness, clarity and deeper relational presence that brings wellbeing and insight in ourselves and others. For more information and to book, please contact Adrian:[email protected]
Three-in-One Amitabha Wongkur Weekend: 1st to 3rd May Amitabha illuminates the world with the expansive light of boundless love using the qualities of perception, connection and curiosity. This mini-retreat with Chime offers a beautiful opportunity to receive wongkur in a supportive environment, with time for mindfulness and practice, nature and connection. There will be two classes on Saturday at 9:30 am and 3 pm with the wongkur at 9:30 am on Sunday morning. For bookings both at the centre and online please contact Gaby on [email protected].
May Retreat: 9th to 17th May This retreat is mainly for people who have some experience with meditation. If you have attended a weekend with Chime previously, that is very helpful. The retreat is quiet and more concentrated than the weekends. People are asked to bring other activities that interest them, such as art, craft or study. The "setting up of mindfulness" is compatible with other modalities such as physical movement, art and academic study. There will be an opportunity to spend one-on-one time with Chime during the May retreat. Please contact Anne for information or booking: [email protected]
*A gentle reminder - please care for others and yourself, and do not attend Origins if you are feeling unwell, especially with cold or flu symptoms. Thankyou!
