Chair Persons Comment The team work and dedication at Origins is developing in a healthy and sustainable way. I am proud of everyone's attitude and energy. As this development increases our sustainability will become more secure. We all want Origins to have a long future - I am deeply grateful to the whole community; staff; course providers and guests. Every person matters in an enterprise such as ours.
World Peace Pagoda Day What a wonderful occasion it was! Last Sunday on 1st December the friendship and energy that produces the teachings and principles that guide us was so evident. The day was attended by old and new friends, many youngsters and people from the Mon community in Perth. Lots of friendship, good food and our traditional flower and water blessings were a blessing for us all. How lucky we are to have such a precious monumental symbol like our Peace Pagoda! Thank you deeply and happily one and all. Our growing community is generating a really meaningful occasion.
2025 Courses by our core community of course providers are booked and spaces for others are being considered and offered...stay tuned to our updates. Origins closes for 2024 on 11th December with the final Kindy of the year. We reopen on the 5th February with the first Kindy of 2025. The happiness and education of our young children is, of course, central to all our futures. Kindy is dedicated to this. We will continue to offer it into our region.
Dana We are resolved to keep everyone informed about the material realities of a sustainable Centre, it has always been founded on the generosity of others who maintain both the place and the teachings. We are resolved to make everyone aware of this. Our mutual care and responsibility is essential to our future.
Pilgrimage to Rumtek There is a growing number of us committed to meet in Rumtek on 1st April 2025, we are there to further deepen and develop our relationship to the Tibetan Buddhist Teaching demonstrated by the Nuns of the Karmapa in Rumtek, Sikkim. Anyone interested will be sent periodical updates about the trip, you are welcome to join us. If you are interested please contact [email protected]. There are several strands unfolding that could develop our long term relationship with the nuns in exciting ways.
Thangka Exhibition and Fundraiser for the Rumtek Nuns On Friday 3rd January, 2025, from 5 - 8pm the exhibition opens at Yoga Moves in Shenton Park. The exhibition will continue from 10am - 5pm on Saturday 4th January. On Sunday 5th at 12 midday there is a pot luck lunch for our community of friends. Throughout the exhibition informed people will be present to guide and explain our relationship to the Tibetan Teachings and the Nuns of the Karmapa. This exhibition will provide an opportunity for people to offer pledges of support for the wonderful community of nuns. We have been supporting them since 1998.
Sustainable Finances Costs are going up across the board for everyone including the costs of maintaining Origins Centre. In the light of this we are suggesting contributions of $40 - $60 per person per day for accommodation. Staff at Origins are now offering six donated hours of work per week. We all agree that 'dana' requires an informed understanding, we will all make an effort to help each other understand that Origins exists because of peoples generosity and interest.
Staff and Course Providers On Sunday 9th February at 2pm all staff and course providers are invited to meet either in person or online in order to develop our collective approach to the year ahead. The meeting will help us all to be clear about our common ground and our collective aspiration.
Social Enterprise Origins itself is a kind of social enterprise very much in the spirit of dharma. People interested are invited to attend a meeting on Sunday 12th January from 10am - 2pm including a pot luck lunch. We will workshop ideas to increase our income stream. Costs are rising rapidly and we have to respond creatively. We will try to treat this as an inspiration, not a problem!
