Guest Information

PictureCommunity Pot Luck Lunch
Accommodation is only available for courses and retreats. Special arrangements can be made for private, individual retreats under specific circumstances. If you would like to use our space for a compatible purpose such as hosting your own retreat, please contact us with details. Please see our Update and Calendar of Events pages to find out when courses and retreats are already taking place.

We may be able to accommodate Bibbulmun Track walkers. Booking ahead is essential and we are flexible, however, we do close sometimes for private events. It's best to e-mail - [email protected]

Anyone who uses the Centre shares some responsibility for general domestic care and maintenance of our facilities.
Please respect that Origins Centre is a drug and alcohol free space.

Guests are required to bring their own food and bedding.
We recommend bringing sheets, pillowcases and blankets or sleeping bags. Please note that it can be quite cool at night in the southwest.
Use of accommodation and facilities is by donation (dana). We ask people to consider $30 - $50 as a reasonable minimum.
Courses and retreats are also by donation (dana). Financial contributions for teachers are made separately in the Rotunda.
Origins Centre Lost & Found Property Policy can be found here.

Facilities

PictureOrigins Communal Lounge Area
The Centre has indoor facilities to accommodate up to 20 people. There are 10 rooms: 1 room with three single beds (single plus bunk); 6 rooms with two single beds each; and 3 rooms with a queen-sized bed each.

There is a fully equipped communal kitchen, dining and lounge area. We have a substantial library including some children’s books, toys and play equipment.

Two additional buildings on site are the Rotunda and the Alcove.
The Rotunda is a beautiful, spacious eight-sided meeting room suitable for mindfulness, music, yoga, etc.  A special shrine building called the "Alcove' houses some special Buddhist Artifacts to commemorate our original links to the Dharma.

Donations

The Origins Centre operates on a philosophy of mutual respect, support and goodwill, known as dana. The Centre functions successfully through freely given donations of money, in kind contributions and gifts of service.
As a charitable not-for-profit NGO, we rely on the goodwill of the community and those staying here.

The Rotunda
For those who are interested in history, our amenities are built using the timbers from the old Bunbury wharf. The Rotunda was originally at Graylands Hospital in Perth. The beautiful World Peace Pagoda here was built with friends from the WA Myanmar (Burmese) community under the direction of Ven. Sayadaw U Thila Wunta.

In 2006, Origins was fortunate to gain a Lotterywest grant. This grant, when combined with the great effort and generosity of many friends and well-wishers, resulted in many much needed improvements. Such updates included: a manager's residence, separate office, composting toilets, upgrading to our water collection capabilities and renovating the caretaker's room.

Directions

157 Jayes Road, Balingup.
The Origins Centre is located approximately 3 hours drive southwest of Perth. From Bunbury, turn down the South Western Highway in the direction of Donnybrook. Cross over the little bridge into Balingup and turn left on Jayes Rd (opposite the General Store). After 1.1 km. there is a sign for the Origins Centre on the left. Follow the sign to the parking lot.
