Golden Valley Tree Park
Balingup’s heritage listed Golden Valley Tree Park is the largest arboretum in WA. It is recognised on the Register of national botanic gardens. Landscaped with over four hundred tree species, it is divided into an Australian Collection of 25 ha. and a World Heritage Collection of 35 ha. Most species are labelled and the Tree Park has six walk tracks and picnic areas, toilets and scenic look-outs across the hills of Balingup. At the Park’s entrance stands the fully restored Victorian Georgian Golden Valley Homestead. The project is a forty year collaboration of an incorporated association of community volunteers and the Department of Parks and Wildlife which owns the land. Hundreds of community members have contributed to the project. The World Collection is famous for its autumn colour. The Oak Grove contains over forty Quercus species and the Oak Grove Walk Track has been designated as one of WA’s “Top Trails”. Completely different in feel, as you would expect, the Australian Collection takes you through the tree-scapes of Australia; from tall eucalypts to a small rainforest glade, then up the hill into the semi arid collections of gimlets, mallets and mallees from WA’s South West. Open daily by gold coin donation. www.goldenvalleytreepark.org.au

The Climate Reality Project
Climate Reality Project trains grass roots leaders to act on climate change by committing to initiatives to bring about climate solutions. It provides training in climate science, communications, and organizing to tell the story of climate change and inspire communities everywhere to take action. The result is a dynamic group of change-makers shaping the conversation on climate in forums from family dinners to international summits, and building a 21st-century movement for solutions. |
