Online Dignity Therapy Murdoch University are currently conducting an Australia-wide study called Online Dignity Therapy. It involves creating a “life manuscript”, using online media where people with a life-limiting illness have the opportunity to create a lasting document for themselves and their family as a form of support. Topics of discussion may include important aspects of their life, accomplishments, hopes and dreams for their loved ones, as well as anything else they feel would be appropriate to include. |
In previous studies, Dignity Therapy has proven to be beneficial to people with life-limiting illnesses as well as their family members, but most visits were done in person, with the researcher visiting the participants at home. In this study, we are researching whether similar positive results can be seen with people engaging in ‘Online Dignity Therapy’ using email, Skype, FaceTime or online chat. More information on the study is available at www.dignitytherapy.com with a short survey linked to our research team led by Dr Brenda Bentley.
Mind Mates Resilience Workshops
Mind Mates is a small, not-for-profit organisation in Perth that delivers workshops for primary school age children that aim to build the necessary skills for resilience and ensure good mental health over the life span. The workshops have been developed by Emily Harper (psychologist) and Tamara Bushell (occupational therapist), and teach mindfulness practice using movement, yoga, play and art, alongside building communication & relationship skills, sensory regulation skills, emotional awareness, community connectedness and a sense of inner refuge. |
Workshops are kept low cost to enable easy access, and run several times a year. Both Emily and Tamara work in acute mental health settings alongside their Mind Mates work, and started Mind Mates with the aim of preventing mental health difficulties for children, teens and adults. They are in the process of developing a parallel workshop for parents.

Peer Health Coaching - sane.org Sahra Dauncey is an old friend and co-worker of Chime's from Sydney. She is deeply involved in the important issue of Peer Support in the community of those with lived experience of mental health issues. Mental health is recognised as a key issue of our time and there is growing awareness that we are creatures of body/mind, and that mental aspects often determine the outcome of life challenges. Compassion and co-operation in healing can happen right across the whole Australian community. Peer Support is an essential voice in the chorus of good work which is dedicated, heartfelt and continuous. Click here or on the picture to the right to read an overview of this approach. A nationwide picture of mental health advocacy is available at sane.org . Innovative programs and valuable local resources for peer support in WA can be found at Hearing Voices Network and The Richmond Fellowship. |
